Pre-Requisite: You must have permissions to access the Document Editor, as well as Edit Library Items, so that you can access each location for which you are attempting to alter the logo.
Logos on Documents in the Past
Previously, in the Document Editor, a logo could be placed on each document, as an inline image, shown int he screenshot below. This worked well until your logo changed. Then you would need to go to all 27 documents in your Document Editor and change each logo. But we have made that process more efficient. This article will explain how to add a Logo to your documents in a way that makes it incredibly easy to change all of the logos at the same time.
Current (and more efficient) Method
Under Edit > Setup > Locations > Images tab, your logo should be placed in the Letter Header section, and the Footer containing your address and contact information should be placed in the Letter Footer section.
Document Editor
In your URL, proceed to the Document Editor (Home > Document Editor) and select the document in which you wish to place the Header and Footer.
Find the Insert tab and select it. Notice when that is open the options for Header and Footer appear in the toolbar, as identified below.
Select the Header button to start. Once you do this, your screen should look like the screenshot below. Notice (where the arrow is pointing) the Header area now available at the top of the document. This is where your header will be placed. Also take note of the outlined box labeled Table, showing there is now another navigation tab at the top for Header and Footer. We will look at that additional tab later.
Focusing on the available space in your header, select the Table button in the toolbar that appeared when Header Footer was selected. Headers and footers should always be placed within a table. This locks their location in the document. For this table, we only need to enter 1 for number of columns and 1 for number of rows, then click Ok.
Next, click inside the Table you just inserted into the Header before continuing.
The next step is to enter the appropriate merge field so the Header pulls from the image uploaded in Edit > Setup > Location > Images tab. With your cursor in the table, click the Merge Fields option in the document editor. Next, select the General drop down. That arrow opens another option where you will select Images. The last option to select is the merge field called 'Image Letter Header'. It is just above the footer, which will be needed later.
When you make that selection, there should be a placeholder that appeared in your Header Table, as shown below. You can make the header a bit larger too if you wish for the letter.
Now that the Placeholder for the Header is in the table, you need to make some adjustments to represent your practice most effectively. Notice in the Tabs above the document toolbar, the Design and Layout tabs.
The next step is to remove the border. This choice is completely up to you, but for this exercise, let's remove it. Select the Design button, and using the dropdown menu. Select No Border.
Next, go to the Layout button and select it. Then, click the drop down for Alignment. You will see options to align the Header Logo within the Table in your Header.
I selected Center, but you could also select Top Center if you want the logo centered, but at the top edge of the Table, or Bottom Center, if you want the logo centered, but at the bottom edge of the table. You also have the option of aligning the logo to the left or right, as some offices do. The Header now appears locked in the center.
The final step is to adjust the size of the placeholder. It will not be an exact representation of your logo, and will likely require multiple attempts to size it, save the document, then do a test merge of the document to see how the image looks, and potentially coming back into the Document Editor to re-size the logo as necessary.
To adjust the placeholder, left click (using a Windows machine) the image. It will now appear as shown below, with buttons to resize the image around it.
Select the lower left corner by placing your cursor in the box, press and hold the left mouse key, and slide the mouse downward and to the left. The placeholder image will enlarge, while maintaining the aspect ratio. Doing it this way will keep your logo looking as you want it to look. Only dragging straight down from the bottom line will make your logo tall and skinny, and only dragging it horizontally will distort the image, so it appears wide and squatty.
The placeholder should now look larger than it did when it was first brought onto the document.
At this point, let's move to the Footer. From the Header Footer tab, as shown below, hover over the second button from the left. It will show 'Go to Footer.' Clicking this will take you straight to the footer, where you can repeat the steps above for adding the table, selecting the Image Letter Footer Merge Field, then re-sizing that placeholder and centering it to your taste.
Also shown in the above image is an X in the Header Footer tab. Clicking this X takes you out of the Header Footer tab and returns you to the main document editor page.
There are options within the Header Footer tab that also allow you to move the Header closer to, or farther away from the top of the page, and to move the Footer closer to or farther away from the bottom of the page.
